Youth pride

Summary

Youth Pride was arranged at Amiralen during 10 days with hundreds of visitors daily. Pride is of significant importance for the youth and throughout WorldPride there was a specifically closed environment for adolescents with a special programme for them. In the Youth Pride-area the adults could only enter with the consent from the youths. There were discreet and safe entrance-points to the location for the young people who i.e have not yet come out as LGBTQIA+ but wished to participate.

To offer the opportunity for youth to make new relations and contact to organisations working actively all-year-around, Malmö Pride collaborated with local and national functions specifically focused on LGBTQIA+youth. The organisations contributing to the making of Youth Pride were Habitat-Q, Malmö Operas youthproject, AKT – Arrangemang, Kultur, Teater, Tjejjouren, Fryshuset, BUFF as well as United Sisters and RFSU. All mentioned actors created their own activities at Youth Pride which represented their daily activity. Furthermore, Malmö Pride alongside Folkets Park, with curation by Ranya Asadi, also developed a programme containing everything from Vogue Balls and Roller-disco to filmscreenings and plenty of workshops. Some of the activities were re-occurring during the festival and many of the collaborators housed events throughout all of WorldPride2021 such as swop-shop, arts&crafts and DIY plus lectures and talks.

There was always space to hangout in a safe environment adapted for the young visitors and many of the volunteers present were also young adults themselves which was an important aspect of the making of Youth Pride.

Folkets Park was also decorated with educational imagery and texts about historically known LGBTQIA+profiles, created by children and teenagers in the city.

Activities were held at Youth centers around Malmö arranging Pridebake-offs, documentary-screenings, reading sessions, creative workshops and a smaller Pride parade. Most of the Youth centers had been decorated beautifully by other youths and leaders.
