Culture during WorldPride

Art & Culture is always important during an event like Pride normally, but even more so when it’s WorldPride, and especially with Covid restrictions meaning that there are not so many chances for cultural exchange. While we were unable to carry out the full cultural programme that we had that we planned and wished for, we felt so lucky and privileged that Malmö is full of amazing Art & Culture all year around, and for this year, 2021 they all worked so hard to highlight and showcase their best side and put forward a massive programme each day of the whole WorldPride period.

Our key collaborators like Inkonst, Panora and Dansstationen created nonstop daily Queer Excitement with pretty busy venues and many great memories.

Inkonst created a programme filled with performance art, visuals, music and live art installations, Inkonst was the place to be! Daring, brave and fresh with live DJs most nights.

Panora created the biggest Queer Film Festival in Sweden this year, and between 12 – 22 Aug they screened over 30 films and shorts programmes with plenty of curated talks. Panora was also the host venue for a full ten day pop up bookstore and poetry stage hosting Malmö’s Page 28, a queer bookstore. Plus, five nights they were the open mic setting for political riots, a stage open for and by grassroots activists.

Dansstationen invited riot grrl inspired sportbalett, Ribbon dance and Alan Turing opera project and much more during WorldPride.

So, these spaces do Queer Art & Cultural all year around, but we also collaborated with a variety of organisations and people who created thoughtprovokative and shiney events during WorldPride, Like Jessica Nettlebladt’s film Prince of Dreams who premiered in St Johanneskyrkan, Olika Förlag who launched the new very cute childrens book Rita med Drag Queens and we had Malmö Brandkårs Orkester and Räddningstjänsten Syd playing music from a truck in central Malmö to everyones delight.

Malmö Pride was proud of all our cultural collaborators and hope this will be ongoing for years to come.
